Our mission is to defend, restore, and strengthen the ecological diversity of our island community by inspiring and empowering people to learn, live, and love the wild spaces of Gambier Island and its surrounding waters.
Located in the wild heart of Átl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound
Gambier Island is the wild heart of Atl’katsem Howe Sound, a funnel shaped finger fjord of the Salish Sea. It is part of the traditional territory of the Squamish Nation who know it as Chá7elkwnech. Our mission as the Gambier Island Conservancy is to defend, restore and strengthen the ecological diversity of this island community. We will do this by inspiring and empowering people to learn, live and love the wild spaces of Chá7elkwnech Gambier and its surrounding waters.

The Gambier Island Conservancy was founded in 1995 in response to growing development pressures across the island that were threatening the integrity of its forests, lakes, creeks and shorelines. In the years since its inception, the Conservancy has and continues to play an active and pivotal role in the preservation, conservation and restoration of the Island’s unique natural endowments.
