Conservancy Inaugural Group Hike

On Sunday 3 October 2021,  Peter Scholefield led 13 people on the Conservancy’s inaugural group hike to the Halkett Viewing Bluffs in the Halkett Bay Marine Provincial Park. Two came on their own boats and 12 of them  departed on a Mercury water taxi charter from the public dock in Horseshoe Bay at 11 am, arriving 20 minutes later at the public dock at Camp Fircom. From the camp, the hiked for about one hour to the Halkett Viewing Bluffs where they had a spectacular view over Halkett Bay and the coast mountains beyond (photo below). After eating our lunch at the Bluffs, they hiked, for about 1.5 hours, back to Camp Fircom on a diversion route that took us through the Fircom Plateau subdivision. Before the water taxi arrived at 3:30 pm to take them back to Horseshoe Bay, Terra McKenzie, Executive Director of the Camp Fircom Society, gave them a ½ hour tour of the camp. A 5-minute video of the hike prepared by Ross Stewart.
